James, our MD, was welcomed into Bedale High School to speak with their current Year 9 and 10 students as part of their ‘Work Ready Week’.
James, joined by numerous other professionals from a wide range of industries attended the school on Wednesday 6th and Thursday 7th of July to inspire the students.
A number of different activities, including mock job interviews, put the students through their paces and generally provide them with a clear insight into the future world of real work.
Interviews can be very daunting for some students, so conducting mock interviews can help students learn how to answer difficult questions, improve their communication skills, develop their own personal strategies, and reduce the stress surrounding an actual job interview.
The event spanned over two days, with the first day showing the array of different post-16 education options open to the students, including Darlington College, QE, York College, White Rose Beauty College, The Fire Service, Richmond Sixth Form, Askham Bryan, Northern School of Art, and Thirsk Sixth Form.
The second day focused on interview practice. The students complete a written application and then attend a real interview with one of the visiting business leaders, then the best candidates were awarded with a ‘You’re Hired!’ certificate at the end of the day.
James' winner was Zosia Palacz,
"I admired her dedication and hard work. She had clearly put lots of thought into her career path, with plans to attend college, already knowing which subjects she aims to study, going to university, and to then go into the computer science industry."
Thank you to the young adults at Bedale School who took part, and their teacher Mrs Temple for organising such a great event.
