Traditionally when installing MRS for an NHS Trust, they provide us with server space to install it onto. This means that that NHS Trusts IT department are responsible for the connections to and from the server, therefore are responsible for making sure the server is running and up to date.
Many NHS Trusts now have a ‘Cloud First Policy,’ meaning that if something can be hosted on the cloud securely, it should be. By moving MRS to ‘the cloud’, they are moving the responsibility away from the NHS IT department, over to us.
We have recently moved East and North Hertfordshire NHS Trust over to be hosted on the cloud. This means we have moved the server and database off premises and onto servers that are owned and managed by WJPS- meaning that the only thing that needs to be installed by the trusts IT department is the clients software which connects to the server, hence the NHS IT department have no infrastructure to manage.
We use Redcentric to provide these servers, which allow them to sit on the HSCN (Health and Social Care Network,) meaning that only the NHS organisations can access them.
The advantage of moving to the cloud is that the trusts IT department do not need to be involved in setting up or managing the server, so WJPS have much more control, meaning we can fix issues a lot faster, and it is much easier for us to update as we will not have to liaise with the trusts IT department.
The servers WJPS run are backed up every night, this means that any data stored on the servers will be backed up, this will prevent any data loss in the event of any kind of hardware failure or similar.
Instead of being directed to a local server, MRS will instead point to the server on the cloud. This requires a constant Internet connection, and data will go over the Internet, but as the data size is relatively small it will not mean slower speeds in MRS itself.
This service is available to any of our NHS Customers, please get in touch to find out more!
