Meet Ash!

Tell us about yourself!

I’m Ash, I recently graduated from NorthCoders coding bootcamp, training to be a full stack developer.

Immediately before taking this turn in my career, I was working in hospitality at a lovely pub called “The Fox and Rabbit”.  That was filling whilst I recovered from many setbacks on the route to a teaching career.  It seems that coding is the right choice for me, it suits me and I believe I suit it.

Outside of work, I enjoy going hiking over the Moors and a few years ago I took part in an expedition challenge and trekked across Iceland, camping out.  A great experience and helped develop my leadership skills.  Not forgetting the endless fundraising too!

Once a week I spend time with friends playing the classic game ‘Dungeons and Dragons’ and am usually roped in to being the ‘dungeon master’ who tells the story of events in which the players react to. So that makes it a fun way for me to be creative and make new puzzles.  I also play different trading card games and board games at “EH Gaming” in Stockton on the Forest.

What does your role involve and where would you like to take it?

My role as a Junior Developer at WJPS is learning the ins and outs of MRS3, understanding how it works, the processes involved such as installing, upgrading/updating and customer support.  Alongside this undertaking my Apprenticeship in Software Development.

I have always wanted to take my understanding and knowledge with coding/software development even further especially after completing my bootcamp and working at WJPS is enabling me to do that which I’m grateful for.

How are you finding working at WJPS and with its customer base?

Absolutely amazing! The staff I’m working with are all very helpful, my tasks fall into my knowledge of development, but with the challenge of learning a new language.  So as time progresses I’m sure new and exciting tasks will arrive and develop my knowledge and skill set in a variety of ways. Sadly, to date, I haven't had much time interacting with the customer base but it’s something I’m looking forward to.

Tell us a fun fact about you!

The one thing which always surprises people when I tell them is I own horses, and I’ve been looking after them since the age of 7,  Enjoying hacks across the countryside, grooming/brushing them, and the not so fun one of cleaning out the stables.

I did make it to the UK area Junior Dressage while with the Pony Club.  Now the second one is that after this time with ponies and horses, I have a motorcycle licence so swapping 1 horsepower for quite a few more.
