NHS Pharmacy Quality Control

Sixteen years of monitoring records that stand up to inspection

WJP Software has built environmental monitoring software for NHS pharmacy QC since 2009. MRS is used in NHS trusts including Bradford, Leeds and Stockton, and the people who built it are still the people behind it.

Our experience in NHS Pharmacy

MRS began with Bradford Royal Infirmary, where we spent 18 months working alongside the QC team to replace a paperbased process. That way of working has shaped everything since: every feature is built with the people who use it, and data integrity is designed in from the start, not added later.

Today MRS runs in regional QC laboratories and the aseptic units they serve, from a single trust to region-wide and countrywide rollouts. This has involved working with our users through National User groups, where we share best practice and learn about whats important to QC laboratories.

  • NHS Wales

Implemented across Welsh Health Boards and associated Public Health Laboratories (PHW).

What MRS gives your QC laboratory

An inspection turns on the record: who read the plate, when, against which limit, and what happened next. MRS records each answer as the work happens, and because it was built for pharmacy QC rather than manufacturing, it fits how QC laboratories and aseptic units already work.
  • A record that stands up to inspection

A record that stands up to inspection

Every result records who read the plate, when, against which limit and what happened next, in one auditable record. When regional QA or the MHRA asks, the answer is on one screen, not in a folder of paper, and MRS comes with validation scripts to support your validation.

Less work between the lab and its units

Units book in their own plates and see their results through MRS Web, are told straight away about any exception, and respond online. Barcode and QR book-in cuts keying errors, so fewer calls, forms and chasing on both sides.
  • Built for pharmacy QC

    Built for pharmacy QC

Developed with an NHS QC team, MRS covers licensed and unlicensed aseptic and radiopharmacy areas, calculates alert levels the way aseptic QA does, and keeps lab management in the same system. It fits how your lab already works.

The MRS Cube

When an inspector or regional QA auditor questions a result, a number on a form can't show what the analyst actually saw on the plate, or why a colony was discounted. Once the plate is gone, so is the evidence. The Cube photographs each plate the same way every time, lets the analyst mark what they counted and discounted, and saves the image with the result, so the evidence stays in the record. It's priced to come out of a department budget, without a business case.

Environmental Water Testing (EWT)

Water outlets across a trust are tested routinely, often by Estates, with the results checked by infection control or pharmacy. When those results sit in spreadsheets or separate systems, a failing outlet is easy to miss and trends are hard to see.

EWT, built on the same foundations as MRS 3, organises every outlet by site, building and floor. Any result outside its limits generates an exception report that goes straight to whoever is responsible for that outlet, results are trended over time, and every action is audited.
